Bollywood Fashion Showdown: Mumtaz vs. Leena Chandavarkar vs. Sonam Kapoor

This edition of Bollywood fashion Showdown takes place between three Bollywood startlets in 3 different era's all wearing the Iconic Orange draped sari first showcased by Mumtaz in the Aaj kal tere mere pyar song from the 1968 film Brahmachari, thus let the battle commence

Mumtaz in Bramachari(1968)
First up is Mumtaz as already noted above, when she wore the Iconic Orange draped Sari in the groovy Aaj kal tere mere pyar song from  Bramachari (1968)
see her in action below

Forgive the grainy pictures, i took them off the Youtube video
Next came Leena Chandavarkar who wore a very similar Sari (in what looks like a parody of the Aaj Kal tere mere pyar song above) for the 'Hal dil laga' dance number in the 1971 film Preetam, see her in action below

Sonam Kapoor as Mumtaz
Rounding off the battle is Sonam Kapoor who wore a very similar sari for a December 2010 photo shoot with Filmfare Magazine where she dressed up as Mumtaz in the Aaj kal tere pyar song as discussed above

So dear fellow readers, bloggers, etc. Who do you think wore the Orange Sari best, sound off in the comments below or vote in the poll on the right hand side of this Post (Voting Closes on Sunday Midnight) and the Winner shall be announced in due course!

  4. Mumtaz! Frankly, I adore her. :-) Second, perhaps, Leena Chandavarkar - but Sonam's nowhere in the reckoning for me.

  5. Mumtaz!!! :-)
When I had first seen that song from Preetam, I just couldn't go to sleep without watching Aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke...Leena is cute and looks good in that song, but it looks so much like an extension of Aaj kal. But I would prefer Aaj kal any day!

  6. Hmm, not sure if this is an exact comparison... Leena Chandavarkar's outfit doesn't seem to me to be in the same shade of orange. I am seeing more of a salmon tone to it - like this:

  9. Thanks to everyone for the comments, looks like we have a clear winner It's Mumtaz!! all the way with Over 99% of the votes

@ Richard S. Yes some of the shades are different but i thought i'd compare them still as they're all of the same style

  10. BD, of course... But my main point was to mention how that more fishy shade of orange brought to my mind that great dance by Sandhya (in an outfit very close in color, though perhaps not in style). And, of course, it was an excuse to provide the link to the video, which actually had been uploaded by you. :)

  13. @ Richard S, yes indeed I thought the same thing when i saw Sandhya's orange, its clearly the same shade, I'm also very aware or your fondness for taht song very much like I am ;)

@ Sharmi Yet another vote for mumtaz

@Anonymous Great to have a Leena supporter on here, I was convinced she wore it best too but alas it had to be Mumtaz, she wore it first

  14. I vote for Leena. Mumtaz also is good.
    Sonam is no match.

  15. Leena is famous for her cherubic face & adorable smile, and is more beautiful than Mumtaz and Sonum. Leena seems to be shorter than Mumtaz and Sonum. Mumtaz is elegant, tall and appears mischievous and naughty. But advantage for Leena is her innocent looks and smile. Hence my Vote is for Leena!

  16. I agree with Vinay. My vote is for short and sweet Leena. and of course Mumtaz is the original.

  17. Thanks, nice discoveries. Mumtaj's Aaj kal song is well known. But I did not know Leena. She resembles Sridevi. I scaned youtube for Leena songs. Surprised to see many nice songs.

One from movie Jawab is with similar costumes, but different color. Here is the link. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bU0yuwReAw]

And my vote is now you know its LEENA.

  18. Looks as though the late votes are all going for Leena. :) I'll vote for Leena too. In addition to liking her shade of orange for the above-stated reasons, I think that she is more charming here. She is more beautiful, and I like her dance more - it's more fluid, and she even does a little belly dancing here.

  19. Yes, Even I vote for Leena. She is Fantastic.
It seems to be rebirth for forgotten Leena.

  20. @ Raj, Vinay, rOCKY and Pritish I wish you guys had been here when the voting polls were still opened Mumtaz's win would surely have been challenged and i think Leena wore it best too. Thnaks for adding your comments

@ Richard S. Very well said, my vote was for Leena too right from day one, but seeing as I'm the author of the post I tried not to influence votes hence why i never stated my own personal choice
