Sadhana: The Evergreen Bollywood Diva

Sadhana in Arzoo (1965)
A big thank you to everyone for their kind messages and wishes on my previous post marking this blog's second anniversary, it means a LOT (Bahut bahut shukriya). Before i get started on Deol Dhamakka which is going on around some of the Bolly blogosphere at the moment, I thought I'd post this lovely magazine article on Sadhana, who is one of my favourite bollywood diva's from the 60's

The interview gives quite an accurate account of what her life is at the moment with some juicy quotes of course, here are some of the things i learnt about Sadhana from this interview,

She is a bit of a Diva

Sadhana notes that there three major actresses back then , there was
a. Saira Banu (The Beautiful one)
b. Asha Parekh (The Dancer)
c. Me (Sadhana) - The actress
Ahh i love you Sadhana i would have done the same

Her famous fringe cut was inspired by Audrey Hepburn whom her husband loved a lot

She was a trend setter who set trends like the tight churidar Kurta with Mojari's

Ok I'm in a rush so i'll just leave you to read the interview for yourselves

She was a sweetheart. I love her movies. Her clothes were fabulous, her acting was good, and her movies were fun.

Happy Birthday to you (on the blog that is ;D)

Sadhna was simply adorable! In my opinion, the best thing about Sadhna was that she looked so unassuming, much less domineering, and to a certain level - vulnerable! She looked the best in Mere Mehboob and Raj Kumar. Her acting stood out in Mere Saayaa where she manages to excite audience's sympathy completely. Also in inteqaam. I also liked her in Asli Naqli and Arzoo. On the whole, her movies have been enjoyable and mostly successful.

It is a pity that certain eye-problem led to her decline. I especially regret that she was out of Sangharsh (Dilip-Vyjayanti starrer).

All said and done, Sadhna will always be cherished at least by my generation of cinegoers who lapped her movies at the theatres.

Thanks for this. Loved reading Sadhana's interview. She is a big favorite of mine and I've always wondered why she does not show up in the filmi press more often. I do wish they'd included a recent picture of hers, too.

Here is a more recent picture of hers - not a very good one though, which is why I wish this interview had included one.

Thank you SO MUCH Bollyviewer for that link to her picture, i've long been curious on what she looks like now. I remember reading on how she doesn't like her pictures being taken hence why she didn't want one professionally

Welcome back and congrats on making it on to your 2nd year as a blogger. Fantastic interview! Wow here I thought I knew my actresses and actors and I hardly know anything about her. I just recall my dad mentioning her a few times. She is very witty and amusing, I love her humor and the fact that she is very honest.

What is she talking about saying that she is cute and not beautiful? She was gorgeous in her time, more pretty than Saira Banu in my opinion!

Love Sadhana!
Escpecially in her earlier films like Parakh and Asli Naqli.

bollywooddeewana said...

@ Blueicegal Thank you for your very kind wishes, i think she was just trying to be humble though in that case she wouldn't have dismissed the others as the beautiful one, the dancer and me the ACTRESS

@ Harvey I do too, i'm yet to see those films though, i have Parakh and i shall be watching it soon

Hey! I have been a recent Sadhana convert, following her in Asli Naqli, Hum Dono, Woh Kaun Thi and Mera Saya (yes.. in that particular order)a few days back. She is one stylish lady in the 60s who led the fashion brigade with aplomb. Absolutely adore her!

I am an ardent fan of Sadhanaji. In my opinion she looked most stunning and beautiful in Prempatra perticularly in the song " Ab aur na kuch bhu yaad raha, na unki jafa na apni wafa. Dil pyar me aise dub gaya" In this song close ups of her face are most stunning and beautiful.

The most versatile actress hindi filmdom got. Really great to know about her. In fact we are really missing her. I have watched all her movie in net as she stopped acting when I was in my primary school itself. But the way in which she present herself in each movie is really awesome, we forget the actress we think as geetha renu kavitha etc etc..Great. Each movements great even her finger acts each part of the body....oh great.. In those days it was fully dramatiasation and she did everything naturally we never ever felt as acting. It is really a loss to all of us.
