The first recipient of this title is none other than Sonam Kapoor who has been slaying the competition with some very interesting looks lately. Sonam, I salute your style and I am pleased to have you as the first honorary of the Bollywood Fashionista of the week
The second Recipient of Fashionista of the week is none other than Sonam Kapoor again, she blew me away with this gorgeous Masaba sari which she paired with some lovely accessories. I especially love those earrings which according to this post here by high heel confidential are by Jewellery designer Suhani Pittie, once again I find her style incredibly chic and well worth the fashionista of the week award

I think its high time I invest in a quality laptop, the thought of coming back home and sitting for hours on end on a desktop blogging after a long hard days at work is seriously discouraging and tiring which is why I've been missing in action for a while, but I've seriously missed blogging as well as reading all my favourite blogs so much that I've designated my weekly days off preparing posts that will be automatically set to publish. My first movie review is this Dharema (thats Dharmendra & Hema Malini) romcom which i couldn't help but fall in love with
Wealthy Ranimaa (Durga Khote) the queen of Taragarh lives in constant agony and anticipation that her long lost granddaughter Ratna who was kidnapped years ago will return to reclaim her throne
Her right hand man Diwan Gajendra Singh(Premnath) takes advantage of situations and recruits suave mobster Raja (Dharmendra) to help him find a girl who'll fake being Ranimaa's granddaughter who'll in turn hand in all the treasures to them once she's been crowned
Raja stumbles upon Shanno (Hema Malini) a street dancing village belle but Diwan thinks she's too much of a commoner to play the role of the long lost princess Ratna
Thus Raja forgoes Shanno as an option but circumstances brings them together again when Shanno escapes after murdering a leacherous man her guardians had sold her to, she finds safety in raja who takes her home and decides upon presenting her as the lost princess Ratna
Thus begins a makeover as Raja transfroms Shanno from Country bumpkin to city slicker, he also teaches her lovely manners
All this results in Shanno not only being fit to play a part of the lost princess but she also falls in live with Raja (something I do not blame her for). Shanno's love for Raja turns into heartbreak when she realises all that grooming and lessons he had been giving her was all in the name of getting her to deceive Ranimaa
Shanno decides to live but is stopped by Raja's assistant Imartilal (Johnny Walker) who tells her about Raja's past scorn in the hands of an unfaithful lover (Bindu) who had cheated on him
Seriously Bindu???? cheating on Dharmendra with Manomhan
Imartilal persuades her to stay as she is the only one who can bring Raja back on the straight and narrow. Shanno listens and decides to play along as Ranimaa's long lost daughter Ratna while also harbouring plans to reform Raja and win his love
But things aren't so easy as Shanno's conscience starts getting the best of her, will she manage to deceive Ranimaa in time so that Raja and Diwan Saheb get the treasures? Who is the real Ratnaand what will happen if she does indeed arrive? Plus will Shanno succeed in her attempts to make Raja fall in love with her? For this and many more delightful 70's bollywood retro goodness watch Raja Jani
With the exception of some minor gaping plot holes especially in the form of Shanno's murder case never been concluded, this is a cool, fun, charming and delightful retro romcom with fantastic chemistry between Hema and Dharmendra, seriously this two are at their best here, I absolutely loved them and its no surprise they went on to marry, they win my award for best filmi jodi of all time (sorry Sharukh and Kajol). Plus it was nice to see a decisive heroine even though a big part of her decision centred around gaining a man's approval to win his love but hey!! that's minor from all the goodness this film offers, there's a bit of romance, drama, thrilling moments (like the scene below) and action all packaged nicely into an endearing entertaining flick, everyone who likes their retro bollywood movies should watch this
And Prem Chopra was styling too, i love that blazer though i think I'd change a few things before wearing it
You also get some fab interiors in the form of giant swiveling doors and quilt padded walls (oh how i love how you pay attention to details 70's bollywood)
Vah!!Kya Baat hai Dharam ji ladies and some of you Gents, stop drooling please
And finally the music from Laximant Pyarelal is delightful, from the amazing 'jani o jani' sung beautifully by kishore Kumar with a suave looking Dharmendra during the title credits to the infectious 'duniya ka mela'to the cheeky 'ABCD chodo' (check out the outfits in this) and then there's the lovely 'mubarak o tujhe' with an appearance from Helen simply dancing around Hema, and the flirty 'Kitna mazaa raha hai'. The song I've chosen to embed however is aaja o aaja simply because of how gorgeous Hema and Dharmendra look in the song
This edition of Bollywood fashion Showdown takes place between three Bollywood startlets in 3 different era's all wearing the Iconic Orange draped sari first showcased by Mumtaz in the Aaj kal tere mere pyar song from the 1968 film Brahmachari, thus let the battle commence
Mumtaz in Bramachari(1968)
First up is Mumtaz as already noted above, when she wore the Iconic Orange draped Sari in the groovy Aaj kal tere mere pyar song from Bramachari (1968)
see her in action below
Forgive the grainy pictures, i took them off the Youtube video
Next came Leena Chandavarkar who wore a very similar Sari (in what looks like a parody of the Aaj Kal tere mere pyar song above) for the 'Hal dil laga' dance number in the 1971 film Preetam, see her in action below
Sonam Kapoor as Mumtaz
Rounding off the battle is Sonam Kapoor who wore a very similar sari for a December 2010 photo shoot with Filmfare Magazine where she dressed up as Mumtaz in the Aaj kal tere pyar song as discussed above
So dear fellow readers, bloggers, etc. Who do you think wore the Orange Sari best, sound off in the comments below or vote in the poll on the right hand side of this Post (Voting Closes on Sunday Midnight) and the Winner shall be announced in due course!
The above blog title is the opening dialogue to Madam X which I've long been praying for to be released, but no one apart from Max Movie Channel seems to have a copy of this classic bollywood female kick ass flick. This 1994 release stars none other than one my favourite bollywood divas Rekha in a double role (wow!!! 2 Rekhas for the price of one). She's working her magic here once more, Kicking ass and parading in fashions fierce enough to give Lady Gaga an envious heart attack and make her quiver in her outrageous platform boots.
Bad asss Rekha, check out that tough babe facial expression!! I love this woman
Lady Gaga would kill to have that Hat
Oh yes and this one too
Giving Face!! You better Work!!!!
Even more FACE!! WHAT 'CHA KNOW 'BOUT THIS
Ahh Lady Gaga would not only Kill, she'll murder to have this ensemble
All hail the Diva!!!
Now let me wet your appetite with a few Youtube clips, that had me hungry (the whole film is available on youtube but without English Subtitles (Part 1 is here), which is something I can never do no matter how desperate I might be, I need to have my English subtitles)
the first clip below includes the line and my new salute for Rekha 'Madam X Ko Mera Salaam' (Madam X I salute you) complete with the theme tune which you just have to hear for yourself 'she is mysterious, she is wanted, she is coming'
The second Clip is Superbly camp and features Rekha in a cat fight against herself (A MUST WATCH)
The height of Campiness with 2 Rekha's in Matching outfits, which is the bad one, see for yourself in the clip below
Alas my pleas have been ignored so far but please Shemaroo, Eagle, T-series, Eros, Big Reliance Pictures, Pen, Priya, Ultra any of you hindi film dvd companies please answer my prayer and release this on Dvd with English Subtitles. Now how about I wet your appetite even further with this gorgeous song from the movie, Rekha's fashion is truly to die for, well ahead of its time I say
This is the first in a number of upcoming posts based on stylish bollywood stars i shall be posting about from time to time on this blog. As a freelance fashion stylist i adore and love people with a sense of style that inspires me, while i might not copy them from head to toe, i like when people make me realise how colours i never thought would go together can be worn, and that's one of the major fashion tips i've learnt from Vinod Khanna
Check out that pose (it totally says 'I'm Hot and i know it') then those rolled up sleeves, neat square belt buckle and square framed glasses, i'd wear them all in a heartbeat Vinod khanna without doubt was one of the most stylish stars in 70's bollywood both on and off screen screen as can be seen in his outfit above (a press picture i think) I would describe Vinod's style as 'Urban Hipster'
Vinod had such a lean frame and cool machismo that i can imagine him being every stylist's dream, he's what i would call a hanger, one of those people who can just about pull off anything
I love his use of colour, like this Green Jacket and yellow bow tie he wears in Aan Milo Sajna
To his Teal blazer and chocolate jumper in Anokhi Ada, those are two colours i never would have thought of mixing, but Vinod wears it so well
I loved his matching safari suits as seen in Aan Milo Sajna, it really highlights his lean frame
Vinod clearly loves his hats, my favourite Hat wearing Vinod moment is from Aan Milo Sajna where he combines it with a check shirt, neckerchief and blazer
Loving the popped up collar and Polyester or is it neoprene Mackintosh
Talking of Neck Ties no one wore them with attitude like Vinod especially in Anokhi Ada where he completed the look with a belted t shirt and purple trousers
Suitswise, Vinod was fond of three piece suits
or sometimes he wore his suits in lovely bold colours with funky ties
Or sometimes he wore them Tie-less with open spread collar shirts
I love him in this dinner suit with a shirt buttoned up all the way without a tie
Vinod loved his sunglasses too, he seemed particularly fond of aviators
Vinod also had a penchant for cool sportswear, who could forget him in that classic Fila Tracktop worn in the 'Hum tumhe hain chahte hain aise' song from Qurbani (1980)
Vinod could just as well pull off Traditional attire, check him out in this poster of Meera for example
