Happy birthday to Me & Nutan

Now before anyone jumps on my throat alerting me on the fact that she's dead, well i know that already, I'm only showing off the fact that i share my birth date with one of bollywood's greatest actresses ever (Kya Honhour Hai). Now i won't pretend to have seen a lot of her classic works, but i'm still discovering them and on my next dvd shopping trip, her classics like Sujata, Bandini etc. are all going into my basket.

I've laid off dvd shopping for now, since i have so many dvds i'm yet to watch plus it was my new year resolution not to buy anymore dvds till i finish all the ones i have at home, its June now and i haven't broken my resolution (yay!). Anway here is a lovely magazine Interview of Nutan's family Members talking about her life, i shall be back again before the end of the day with two Nutan film reviews, till then i hope you all enjoy the article

Jeetendra Extravaganza - Intro

Tomorrow marks the 68th birthday of one my favourite bollywood actors Jeetendra, as a fan what makes Jeetendra very admirable to me are his good looks, his energetic and enthusiastic dance moves and his style of acting. Now i wouldn't describe him as the best of actors but i simply enjoy and never cease to be entertained by his melodramatic and camp style of acting, i also admire his work ethic, Jeetendra started his career in the 1960's with Geet Gaaya Pattharone and went ahead to do over 200+ films all through which he didn't earn a single best actor or best supporting actor nomination, however he always gave his best and was eventually recognised for his contribution to hindi cinema when he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award at the 2003 filmfare awards

A quick timeline of Jeetendra's Career

60's

Career: Jeetendra is said to have been casted as Sandhya's double in the 1959 V. Shantaram film 'Navrang' but his first leading role came in the V. Shantaram's Geet Gaya Pattharone (1964), though a good launching pad for Jeetendra, Geet Gaaya Pattharone didn't do much for him until 'Farz' the first commercial spy film inspired by James Bond became a blockbuster and made Jeetendra a big star, he aslo starred in drama's like Boon Jo Ban Gayee Moti, Suhaag raat, Muslim social 'Mere Huzoor' he had another big hit towards the end of the decade with 'Jeene ki Rah'

Style: Jeetendra was Prettily handsome in the 60's with Elvis style Pompadours, glowing skin and mod style clothes, he was a treat for the eyes

Famous Pairings: His leading ladies in the 60's were Rajshree, Babita, Nanda, Tanuja & Mumtaz
Jeetendra & Babita in Farz
Mumtaz in Jigri Dost

Facts & Trivia: Jeetendra's high spirited and enthusiastic dance moves as can be seen in the 'mast baharon ka' song from Farz earned him the nick name 'Jumping Jack'

70's

Career: The 70's were a successful period for Jeetendra and further established his superstar status, while Amitabh Bachchan Angry Young man films became the winning formula in the 70's, Jeetendra's career stayed afloat with cute romantic dramas like Humjoli and family drama's like Apnapan, Swarg Narak as well as commercial Hits like Dharam Veer, Caravan, Nagin & Jaani Dushman. His most critically acclaimed work also came in this decade, with films such as Gulzar's Parichay & Khushboo.

Style: The 70's marked a much more masculine look for Jeetendra with lots of visible chest hair, sideburns and less cutesy haircuts

Famous Pairings: Leena Chandarvarkar, Neetu Singh, Reena Roy

Facts & Trivia: After an attempt to marry fellow superstar Hema Malini failed, Jeetendra married his childhood sweetheart Shobha Kapoor, with whom he had two kids Ekta & Tusshar

80's

Career: The 80's were the most successful period for Jeetendra with numerous back to back box office hits and blockbusters in southern type melodramatic films like Tohfa, these southern type films usually had Jeetendra paired alongside Sridevi & Jaya Parda (two southern beauties who were making their mark in the hindi film industry) as well as music by Bappi Lahiri. This films became a winning box office formula, making Jeetendra one of the most bankable stars in 80's bollywood

Famous Pairings: Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Rekha & Reena Roy
Jeetendra and Jaya Prada in Tohfa

Style: Leather Jackets with Neatly pressed trousers, aviators, Slim fitting shirts tucked into Slim fitting trousers, Pencil Moustache

Facts & Trivia: Rumour has it that during the filming of Maqsad one of Jeetendra's southern type films, he & Rajesh Khanna are said to have locked Jaya Prada and Sridevi up in a room in a bid to get both actresses to be friendly towards one another, Upon coming back to the room the two actors found both actresses sitting at opposite sides of the room

90's & Beyond

Career: Jeetendra's career took a major nosedive in the 9o's, he was aging plus there was no way he could compete with the new crop of heroes like Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor etc. He did have a few hits most notably Maa & a few other films, it wasn't long then till Jeetendra was assigned to doing only Fatherly roles and later only made special appearances in movies, like the 'deewangi deewangi' number in the 2007 film Om Shanti Om

Over the next 7 days, this blog shall be devoted to Jeetendra's films 2 from each decade apart from the 90's where i shall only be reviewing 1 so it shall be 2 films from the 60's 70's, 80's & 1 from the 90's

Happy Birthday to you Sridevi

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sridevi in Laadla (1994)

Ahhh Sridevi the beauty of 80's Indian cinema, infact it wouldn't be an understatement to call her the queen of '80's bollywood, Sridevi's screen presence as well as immense beauty generated crazy buzz in bollywood particularly after her first hindi hit film Himmatwala opposite Jeetendra with whom she went on to act in a huge number of hit films such as Tohfa, Mawaali, Maqsad, Justice Chaudhury etc. Sridevi had huge star power and was one of the few females whose name was said to be able to draw in the crowds
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>The Curious case of Sridevi (Sridevi at the 2009 stardust awards)

After a huge decade of hits, the fickleness of fame took its toll and Sridevi's divadom started fading out mostly because of the entrance of newer females such as Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tandon, Karisma Kapoor etc. It didn't take too long for her films to start flopping, and Sridevi bowed out of the Hindi film industry in 1997 with Judaai. Many protests and letters have been written for her to come back but Sridevi i beg you don't be in no rush, come back only if the role is strong enough. Its her 46th birthday today (August 13th the blog time seems a bit slow) and in honour of that here is my top 10 sridevi list, this top 10 is not based on her greatest performances or best songs , rather they're based on songs that personally remind me of her or songs that i think capture the essence of Sridevi

10. Sridevi's dance scene from Chandni (1989) Part of what made Sridevi well loved was her incredible dance moves this scene from Chandni shows what an elegant, sensuous dancer she is

9. Tu Naja Mere Baadshah from Khuda Gawah (1992) sentimental and expressive performace from Sridevi as she pines for her departing lover in this wonderful Afghan love saga

8. Tere Mere Beech Mein from Watan Ke Rakhwale (1987) A newly independent Sridevi discovers the joys of her new love while the old lover looks on in angst

7. Yaara dilbar Dilbaara from Sultanat (1986) Never has Asha Bhosle's vocals ssounded so ravishing on Sridevi as she tempts and seduces Sunny Deol

6. Garmi hai Kahan Hai from Maqsad (1984) Watch Sridevi wiggle her butt while a much older rajesh Khanna grabs and pats her bum and they both exchange orgasmic ahhh's and oohhhh's

5. Nainon Mein Sapna from Himmatwala (1983) Sridevi dances amongst colourful claypots and colourful dusters in this highly infectious song from her first hindi hit film, you might also remember it was among the antakshri songs from Maine Pyar Kiya

4. Hawa Hawaii from Mr India(1987) Sridevi as a greek goddess, Sridevi as Carmen Miranda they're all sorts of Sridevi going on in this super fun song

3. Main Teri Dushman from Nagina (1986) Watch as Sridevi runs down the long winding stairs seen in many bollywood mansions and then writhes, breakdances and sings 'you are my enemy' to the snake charmer Bhairon Nath (Amrish Puri)

2. Mere Haathon from Chandni (1989) In one of her best and most memorable songs watch as sridevi entertains the wedding crowd in this fantastic song which is said to have been the wedding anthem of many a Indian wedding till it got upstaged by Madhuri's 'Didi tera devar deewana'

1. Har Kisi ko nahin milta from Janbaaz (1986) never has a Sari looked so sensuous and sexy in this superb song from Feroz Khan's Janbaaz, Sridevi Zindabad

Happy 46th Birthday Sridevi, God bless and i wish you many happy more years to come

Happy Birthday Meena Kumari

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Meena Kumari in Ek Hi Rasta (1956)

Indeed my Beloved Meena Kumari is long gone, but i'm sure she would smile down at me wishing her a happy birthday whereever she is, Meena who often played the Tragic Diva to a T is always sucha jjoy to watch, below are two of my favourite Meena Kumari songs

Inhi Logon ne from Pakeezah
I can & will never get tired of this song, from the fabulous dancing which i'll admit to my shame, i've tried recreating a couple of times in my living room (major work out stuff i tell you) Never has Meena looked so graceful, the perfect dance moves along with the haunting nature and the fierceness Meena brings to it is what i love. Check out 1:17 in the video clip below when she flicks her thumbs at the guy in the video, Absolutely Priceless

Chali Gori Pi Ke Milan ko Chali from Ek hi Rasta (1956)
I shall be reviewing this movie by tuesday, but this song really reminds me of Meena at her young spritiest best, check out her facial expressions and the way she dances in this video

Meena you may be long gone but definitely not forgotten and you're definitely one of my greatest Bollywood Divas

Happy Birthday to you Poonam Dhillon

Poonam Dhillon in the 1979 smash hit movie Noorie

Happy Birthday to dear Poonam Dhillon, one of my favourite bollywood sweethearts. She burst onto the movie scene in 1978 when Yash Chopra cast her in Trishul shortly after she had just won Femina Magazine's Miss Young India. Following Trishul, Poonam appeared in a number of Box office hits such as Noorie, Karma, Sohni Mahiwal etc. But the first Poonam movie i ever watched was Yeh Vaada Raha a sweet love story which i heard flopped in India but that movie was in the same ranks if not even more popular than Sholay when i was a child in Nigeria, something my dear fellow blogger Daddy's Girl has testified to, another dear friend and fellow blogger Nicki has also testified how the movie was such a hit among Thai people.

Poonam never won any awards perhaps because she always played the hero's girlfriend and never really got to play strong roles, something i think her cuteness denied her and possibly something to do with her shyness, which she herself admitted to, on her website. However Poonam was always so delightful to watch, her innocent face always brightened up the screen and she always gives a charming performance so much so that in most movies you see her in, you can't help but like her and if it were possible you'd want to give her a hug from the screen. God bless you Poonam and i wish you many more happy years to come. I've included five of my fave Poonam Picturisations to celebrate her 47th birthday

5. Hum Jis Raste pe chale from Teri Kasam (1982) In a movie dominated mostly by Amit Kumar singing for Kumar Gaurav, Lata Mangeshkar joins him in this duet, Poonam looks so adoring and i really like her and Kumar Gaurav together

4. Gapoochi Gapoochie Gum from Trishul (1979) Listen to this song once and you'll be
singing it all day,Poonam looks ravishing as usual

3. Sawan ke din aaye from Teri Meherbaniyan (1985) Every bollywood actress usually
needed a sexy rain song and dance usually with another bollywood actor,
however Poonam sizzles alone
in this one

2. Chori Chori koi aaye from Noorie (1979) Poonam looks like the
embodiment of sweetness and cuteness in this catchy song from the sweet,
simple and sad smash hit film Noorie

1.Yeh vaada Raha from Yeh Vaada Raha (1982) This was the first movie
that i saw Poonam in,
and the rest as they say is History, Asha's voice really suits
Poonam's in this classic song and i like the romantic dance between her
and Rishi

Happy Birthday Jeetendra

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jeetendra in the Hit 1967 Spy thriller Farz
Jeetendra how i love thee, Happy 67th birthday to you. Often described by many as overacting, Jeetendra always exuded so much charisma on Screen, and with a career spanning almost five decades, Jeetendra is one of Hindi cinema's greatest stars. From his stylish mod looks in the '60s with hits like Farz to his costume get ups in classic '70's masala like Dharamveer to his back to back super hits in the '80's such as Aasha, Jyoti Bane jwala, Meri aawaz suno, Farz aur Kanoon and bollywood remakes of Southern movies often with SriDevi & Jaya Prada. Jeetendra was undoubtedly one of, if not the box office King of the '80's. He rarely acts these days but his son Tusshar Kapoor who can be seen in comedies such as Golmaal Returns & Kya Kool hai hum is now an acclaimed actor in bollywood. To celebrate his 67th i 've included 6 of my favourite Jeetendra picturisations

6. Nainon Mein Sapna from Himmatwala (1983) This catchy song from one of his superhit films from the '80's never ceases to amaze me, from the wonderful costumes to the colourful clay pots and colourful dusters, i love it all.

5. Dhal gaya dil from Humjoli (1973) This picturization was the inspiration to the Badminton scene in the Dhoom tana song from 'Om shanti om'

4. Tere haathon mein from Jaani Dushamn (1979) I love this song so much, i could listen to it all day, i also love the Neetu/Jeetendra Jodi (couple)

3. Saat Ajoobe is duniya mein from Dharam Veer (1977) I really enjoyed the Jeetendra/Dharmendra (the ends of their names even rhyme..lol) Jodi in this movie + i totally love this song

2. Aashon ke sawan mein from Aasha (1980) I love this movie and i love
this song, i really love Reena Roy and
both of them starred in a number of
suceessful films in the 70's/80's

1. Kitna pyaara vaada from Caravan (1971) If you haven't watched any
of the videos
on the list be sure to watch this one and see how graceful
Jeetendra is,
i loved his dancing in this one, Jeetendra forever.
God bless you Jeetendra and i wish you many more happy years to come
